ATLANTA, Ga. – Competing for the first time in three weeks, the UWG track and field team finished the weekend with 60 points and a third place team finish at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday.


The Wolves finished behind Emory, who hosted the event, and finished with 114 points as a team. West Georgia finished 20 points ahead of the only other Gulf South Conference team in the field, Shorter.



Two jumps took place on Friday, and in the long jump, West Georgia place three in the top 11. Tora Wright headlined that group with a fifth place finish with a top jump of 5.23m, and a jump of 5.11 in the finals. Aalayla Farr was in eighth at 5.03m while Meghan Daniels finished in 11th at 4.96.


Also on Friday, Nadia Davila and Merica Valdez gained points for the cause in the high jump. Davila finished fourth with a jump of 1.60m while Valdez was in seventh at 1.55m.


The triple jump and pole vault took place on Saturday with Farr placing third in the triple jump with a jump of 10.96m. Daniels was just behind her in sixth, posting a top distance of 10.86m.


Valdez finished second in the pole vault on Saturday with a height of 3.60m while Sydney Ross placed third at 3.30m.



On Friday, Paige Berriochoa kicked off the throws on the weekend, grabbing points while placing eighth in the javelin with a toss of 37.38m.


On Saturday, Tyra Babbs finished sixth in the discus with a top toss of 35.62m. Brandi Boddy had the top finish in the shot put, finishing 15th.



The 400m hurdles took place on Friday, and it was Amina Saunders who ran a 1:05.05, good for a fourth place finish, while teammate Maniyah Thomas had the 15th best time at 1:11.22.


In the shorter, 100m version, Saunders and Davila both made the finals, with Saunders leading the way in third with a time of 14.60. Davila finished seventh with a time of 15.15.



The 100m dash finals featured one UWG runner, as Makalah Cannon had the fifth best time in the prelims, and advanced to the final heat of eight, and finished eighth with a time of 12.45. Dawn McCaskill just finished out on the finals, finishing 12th in the prelims.


McCaskill along with Ashley Davis placed in the top-15 in the 200m dash, with Davis placing ninth with a time of 25.75. McCaskill’s time of 26.08 was good for an 11th place finish.


The top finisher in the 400m dash for UWG was Heather Lundi who placed 24th.



It was a third place finish for E’Myah Carter, Amina Saunders, Dawn McCaskill, and Ashley Davis in the 4x400m relay as the Wolves “A” team finished the race in 4:02.69. The “B” squad finished 12th in the race.


In the 4x100m relay, UWG’s two teams finished eighth and tenth, with the squad of Makalah Cannon, Dawn McCaskill, Rickia Stafford, and Rolayo Roberts finishing in 48.77 seconds.
