CARROLLTON, Ga. – Only 35 days remain until the start of the 2017 University of West Georgia football season, and while preparations have been ongoing since spring practice, fall camp for the Wolves officially starts next week as players report to campus on Tuesday, August 1 with practice beginning the next day.
Players will report to the Athletic Operations Building on Tuesday morning for the routine reporting day activities, and will open practice as a full team on Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m. The Wolves will be in helmets only for two days before adding shells on Friday and Saturday. UWG’s first practice in full pads will be on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
The 24th-ranked Wolves open the season on August 31st, hosting Fort Valley State on a Thursday night in University Stadium. On offense, the Wolves look to lean on senior All-American center Harley Vaughn as well as All-Conference performer Quentin Stanford on the offensive line, as they look to pave the way for two-time All-GSC running back Devontae Jackson.
On defense, the Wolves return Zed Brown and Jakyron Young in the secondary. Young was an All-GSC selection a season ago, while Brown had a pair of interceptions last year, and took both back for touchdowns, totaling 109 return yards.
Practice begins on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. as the Wolves prep for the season opener on August 31. The Wolves will have one week of practice and meetings before classes start across UWG on August 9.
