Carrollton, GA – The West Georgia Wolves’ dramatic 20-13 win over Florida Tech has solidified their spot in the latest NCAA regional football rankings. UWG remained fourth in Monday’s release of the NCAA Division II Super Region 2 poll.
The newest rankings put West Georgia in position to secure a berth in the NCAA Division II Playoffs. Also, the Wolves remain in line to gain a host slot for an opening round playoff game on November 18. However, both are dependent on winning this Saturday in the regular season finale vs. 10th ranked West Florida.
The NCAA Playoff field will be set Sunday by the Super Region 2 Regional Advisory Committee. The region’s top seed would draw a bye for the first round of the playoffs on November 18. Positions two, three, and four would play at home in their opening round playoff games vs. the teams rated five, six, and seven.
The NCAA will announce final region rankings and playoff pairings on Sunday at 5 p.m.
Wingate (NC) remains the top team in this week’s Super Region 2 rankings. They are followed by West Alabama, Virginia State, and UWG. Bowie (Md.) State is ranked fifth, followed by Catawba, Delta State, Carson-Newman, Tuskegee, and West Florida.
Nationally, UWG moved up one spot in this week’s ratings. The AFCA Division II Coaches Poll elevated the Wolves to 24th in the nation. The national polls have no bearing on the region rankings.
UWG and West Florida play Saturday with kickoff set for 2 p.m. on Ra-Lin Field.
