CARROLLTON, Ga. – Five University of West Georgia football standouts have named to the 2017 Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) All-Super Region 2 Football Team, led by Harlon Hill Finalist Devontae Jackson.
UWG’s first team honorees are Jackson and senior center Harley Vaughan. Second team selections include offensive tackle Desmond Harrison, wide receiver Shaq Roland, and linebacker Cameron Magee.
Jackson, a junior running back from Marietta (Wheeler), was named the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Year last month. He rushed for 1,175 yards on the season, becoming the third back in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season twice in a career. He also had 18 pass receptions for 217 yards and returned 14 kickoffs for 373 yards, including a 100-yard touchdown return vs. West Alabama. His all-purpose yardage of 1,765 led the Gulf South Conference on the year by more than 25 yards per game.
Beyond his All-Super Region 2 honor, Jackson is also a candidate for Division II’s most prestigious honor. He is a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, given annually to the Division II National Player of the Year.
Vaughan, a senior from Dawsonville, was also a first team All-GSC selection. He’s a three-time All-GSC honoree, a two-time All-Region choice, and is a two-time All-American. Also, Vaughan completed his career having started 53 consecutive games, the most ever for a West Georgia player.
UWG’s second team all-region selections also boast impressive credentials. Roland, a senior from Lexington, S.C., led the Wolves in receptions (55), receiving yards (722), and touchdown catches with six. Harrison, a senior from Houston, Texas, helped power a Wolves offense that scored 412 points on the season. Magee was the only UWG defensive player to earn all-region honors. A junior from Powder Springs (McEachern), Magee ended the 2017 tackles with 80 tackles, including three for loss. He also had three pass interceptions, tying for the team lead. Magee also had six passes defended, the second highest total on the team.
The D2CCA All-Region Team is chosen in a vote by sports information directors from thought the region. Both of UWG’s first-team selections will move forward to the national ballot as a candidate for the 2017 D2CCA All-America Team.
