Carrollton, GA – For the first time this season the West Georgia Wolves are not the top-ranked team in Super Region 2 of NCAA Division II Football. UWG slipped to second in the weekly ratings released today by the Super Region 2 Advisory Committee.

The Wolves fell behind rival Valdosta State on the eve this Saturday’s 38th renewal of the series between the two in-state rivals. Much will be at stake as the game’s winner will claim the spot in the region, and the resulting bye for the opening round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. The losing team is almost certain to claim the number two spot and be hosting an opening round playoff game on November 17.

Following the Blazers and Wolves, Lenoir Rhyne sits in the number three spot, followed by Bowie State, West Alabama, Florida Tech, and Albany State. Rounding out the top 10 are Wingate, Virginia Union, and Fayetteville State. The final region rankings of the year will be Sunday as the Regional Advisory Committee selects the teams for the NCAA Division II Playoffs that begin next Saturday.

Earlier Monday West Georgia remained third in the nation in NCAA Division II in weekly AFCA Division II Coaches Poll. Valdosta State rose two spots and moved to fifth.

West Georgia faces Valdosta State Saturday evening at 7:00 on Cleveland Field in Valdosta.
