CARROLLTON, GA – After turning in a performance for the ages in Saturday’s win over Limestone, a West Georgia Wolves standout has claimed a pair of top conference honors. Running back Chauncey Williams was named Monday as both the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, and the GSC Freshman of the Week.

Williams, a Norcross native and former standout at Meadowcreek High School, turned in one of the top performances in West Georgia football history in Saturday’s victory. He rushed 21 times for 218 yards, and two touchdowns. The 218 yard total matches the fifth highest single game rushing total in UWG history.

The highlight of Williams’ performance was his second quarter, 92-yard touchdown run. It was the third-longest play from scrimmage ever for West Georgia. Also, it was the longest rushing play for a West Georgia back since 1984.

Williams’ honors from the GSC marks the first time a West Georgia player has claimed both a GSC Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors in the same week since the league added the latter honor in 2015. After two weeks of play, Williams is the GSC rushing leader with 264 yards. Also, his four rushing touchdowns also top the league statistics.

West Georgia will open the home schedule this Saturday at University Stadium, playing host to Albany State on Family & Friends Night at 7 p.m. Tickets are available through the UWG Athletics Online Ticket Portal. Fans may purchase reserved chairback seats for $20, general admission for $10, and group tickets are available for $5 (10 or more). UWG faculty, staff, and students are admitted free, with faculty and staff afforded the option to upgrade to a reserved chairback seat for $10.
