CARROLLTON, Ga. – For the second straight weekend, the West Georgia Wolves soccer team is on the road for a pair of games, beginning with Friday’s 5 p.m. contest against Clayton State in Milledgeville. The Wolves then take on Georgia College on Sunday at 3 p.m. also in Milledgeville.

The Wolves, led by head coach Stacey Balaam, are coming off of a season opening road trip that saw a scoreless draw to Rollins before a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Barry. The Wolves’ defense allowed just one goal in 200 minutes of action last weekend, with sophomore Jackie Donaldson making 11 saves in 12 chances.

“Lots to take out of it,” said coach Balaam, “We learned a lot about ourselves, and I think defensively we were a great, organized unit and going forward we just need to score goals.”

West Georgia will now try to take what they learned last weekend and translate it into success on the pitch as they take on a pair of Peach Belt squads in Milledgeville.

Clayton State is 2-0 as they head into this weekend’s games after a pair of wins over Gulf South Conference teams Auburn Montgomery and Valdosta State to open their season. The Lakers have scored six goals on the season including two from Manoly Baquerizo.

Sunday’s opponent Georgia College also brings a perfect 2-0 record into the weekend as they face Montevallo on Friday to open the weekend. The Bobcats’ wins came over Anderson and Florida Southern last weekend. All four of GC’s goals on the season have come from four different players with Amanda Bartholomew leading in points with one goal and two assists.

“I think for our team now, we’ve got to stress the importance of scoring goals,” added Balaam, “We’ve got to go with a little more of an attack-minded attitude and mentality going into this weekend and put some teams under pressure.”

The Wolves will look to execute that game plan when they take the pitch on Friday for a 5 p.m. kickoff against Clayton State in Milledgeville. Sunday’s game against Georgia College is set for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
