CARROLLTON, Ga. – For the third straight Sunday, the UWG soccer team will be on their home pitch, as they host in-state rival Valdosta State in a 1 p.m. kickoff from University Field.
In what will be a critical matchup for both teams, the two rivals meet in Carrollton for the first time since 2015. Both West Georgia and Valdosta State come into Sunday’s game with 6-4 records in Gulf south Conference play. The Wolves have won three straight games over the Blazers, including a 3-0 road win in 2017.
The Wolves are coming off of a 2-0 loss to North Georgia in midweek non-conference action on Wednesday, while the Blazers have had seven days off as they last played last Sunday in an overtime loss to West Alabama.
Freshman Hillary Resendiz leads West Georgia in goals with three, while six Wolves trail her with two goals each on the season.
In goal, Jackie Donaldson continues her solid play. The sophomore is second in the Gulf South Conference with 68 saves, a number that ranks 19th in all of Division II. Donaldson’s save percentage of .872 is 25th in the country.
For VSU, Ashley Lewis leads the Blazer offense with eight goals, ranking third in the GSC. Samantha Blanford leads VSU between the posts with a 3-0 record in five games with 12 saves.
