CARROLLTON, Ga. – For the fourth-straight season, the UWG soccer team is headed back to the Gulf South Conference Tournament, this season as the sixth seed. The Wolves will open the tournament on Tuesday night in Cleveland, Tennessee, taking on third-seeded Lee in a 5 p.m. kickoff.

West Georgia was just in Cleveland on Thursday night, where they fell 2-1 to the Flames in regular season action. Additionally, the Wolves and Flames are no strangers in postseason play as the two teams met last season in the opening round with Lee winning 1-0 on a late goal.

This season, the Wolves finished 7-8-3 with a 7-5-1 mark in league play, while Lee went 12-5-1 and 9-4 in conference play and winners of the final five games of the regular season.

Sophomore Jazmine Santiago led the Wolves in scoring in the regular season, netting nine goals while starting 1 of 18 contests for the Wolves. Santiago has four assists to go with the nine goals, totaling 22 points.

Katie Mitchell led the team in assists with five to go with four goals, giving the senior from Newnan a total of 12 points in 2018. Mitchell scored the lone goal in Thursday night’s 2-1 loss to Lee.

West Georgia will need Jackie Donaldson to be at the top of her game on Tuesday night. Donaldson leads the league in saves with 112 but will be facing a Flames offense that has taken the most shots in the GSC this season. The Flames have rattled off 386 shots, putting 207 on-frame and connecting on 51 goals, ranking second in the league.

Elsewhere in the league on Tuesday, top-seeded West Florida hosts Christian Brothers, while the second seed, Mississippi College hosts Montevallo in Clinton. The four versus five matchup features Valdosta State traveling to Livingston, Alabama to take on West Alabama.

Kickoff for UWG’s Super Tuesday game in Cleveland is set for 5 p.m. from the Lee Soccer Field. The winner will advance to take on the Mississippi College-Montevallo winner on Friday in Montgomery.
