CARROLLTON, Ga. – The West Georgia Women’s cross country team looks to build as they take on Division I competition at the Stan Sims Invitational at Sam Smith Park in Cartersville, Georgia hosted by Kennesaw State on September 8.

The Stan Sims Invitational will be the first 5k on the season for the Wolves. Coming off of a 4k race at Jacksonville State, the Wolves will look to get a baseline for the rest of the season.

The Wolves will be looking for strong finishes again from freshmen Mackenzie Morse and Alaina Burnside, along with sophomore Alexis Smith. The trio put up strong performances at Jacksonville State all finishing within 10 spots from each other.

“There are seven D-1 teams competing so the pace will be fast and the competition stiff” said Head Coach Ryan Bailey. “If the girls keep their heads about them they will be fine.” Coach Bailey has developed a race strategy for the team and he think the girls will be ready to execute.

West Georgia will face Division I competition from Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, and Stetson. The Wolves will face fellow GSC schools North Alabama and Shorter. The women’s 5k will begin at 6:00 p.m.
