CARROLLTON, Ga. – After a 2-1 series win over Mississippi College last weekend, one UWG softball standout was honored by the Gulf South Conference as Ashley Ellison was named GSC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.

Ellison, the freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee, hit in the two hole in Al Thomas’ lineup all weekend, and went 5-for-11 at the plate, good for a .455 average. Ellison had two doubles in three games and drove in a pair of runs and had one stolen base. Defensively, Ellison provided depth as she started all three games in right field, and also saw time at shortstop in game three.

It’s the third different GSC Freshman of the Week in four weeks for West Georgia as Ellison joins Katie Foote and Lexi Close as weekly honorees for the season.

Ellison and company continue Gulf South Conference play this weekend on the road in Memphis, Tennessee taking on Christian Brothers. The series starts with a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. EST and concludes with a 2 p.m. single game on Sunday afternoon.
