CARROLLTON, Ga. – The UWG softball team will look to right the ship on Wednesday afternoon as the Wolves host Augusta in a non-conference doubleheader set to begin at 3 p.m. from University Field.

West Georgia has lost eight straight games, and currently sit at 19-20 overall as they welcome an Augusta team who is 14-26 overall and is .500 in their last eight games. Last weekend, the Wolves were swept by eighth-ranked North Alabama while Augusta split a pair of Peach Belt Conference doubleheaders against Lander and USC Aiken.

On paper, the Wolves and Jaguars are similar in the circle, but the Wolves seem to have the upper hand offensively. As a team, the Wolves are hitting .312 with 227 runs scored while Augusta is hitting .250 with just 139 runs scored. Augusta’s team ERA is 3.91 while UWG’s is 3.79.

Alley Taylor continues to lead West Georgia in hitting, despite a rough week last week. Taylor went 1-for-14 in five games last week, but will look to get back to form on Wednesday. The freshman is hitting .381 on the season.

It was Peyton Stallworth who had the best week offensively last week against really solid pitching from Young Harris and North Alabama. In five games, the junior went 4-for-13 with a pair of doubles and two RBI.

For the Jags, Carolyn Edwards is their top hitter with a .331 average, a pair of home runs and a team-high 20 RBI. In the circle, Morgan Hunter pitches the bulk of the innings for Augusta. She has 28 appearances with 21 starts and a 9-13 record.

First pitch for Wednesday’s doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. from University Field. Live stats will be available at the above link.
