CARROLLTON, Ga. – Saturday opens a pivotal three-game Gulf South Conference series as UWG softball hosts 14th-ranked Alabama Huntsville at University Field this weekend.
UWG swept Augusta in a non-conference doubleheader in their last action, improving to 16-14 overall. The Wolves enter the weekend 3-9 in Gulf South Conference play. The Chargers, who are up to 14th in the NFCA Division II Poll, are 20-6 overall and 8-1 in GSC play and have won eight straight games.
Scarbrough’s Last Time Out
Sophomore center fielder Hannah Scarbrough was 4-for-8 in the doubleheader against Augusta, driving in five runs and slugging three doubles. The Newnan native now is batting a team-high .382 and is second in the GSC with nine doubles.
Team Effort in the Circle
Four pitchers combined to allow just one run in 14 innings against Augusta, as Katie Foote, Morgan Goree, and Lindsye Jefferson all held the Jags scoreless in their outings. The lone run was surrendered by Raya Moncus who allowed a first inning solo homer, but finished with four innings pitched and just three other hits allowed.
About the Opposition
Alabama Huntsville’s numbers on the year are quite impressive as the Chargers lead the league in hitting with a .369 average. Shelby Booker is a big reason UAH leads the league in hitting, as she leads it individually with a .536 average and is a perfect 27-for-27 on stolen base attempts. As a team, the Chargers have stolen 101 bases. Sydnee Uhlman is UAH’s top pitcher as she is 7-0 on the year with a 1.99 ERA.
