CARROLLTON, Ga. - University of West Georgia head softball coach Al Thomas announced today the addition of Nikki Sagermann to the UWG Softball family. Sagermann is set to join the Wolves coaching staff for the 2017-18 season as a graduate assitant.

"I couldn't be more pleased to have Nikki join our staff," said Thomas, "She is a phenomenal young lady that will bring experience, passion, and a true love for the game to our team, coaching staff, fans and UWG."

Sagermann is a native of Buford, GA who had a stellar prep career at Mill Creek High School before fantastic four-year stop at Kentucky. At UK, Sagermann finished her career among the Wildcat's leader in slugging percentage at .523 and finished with 121 RBI, 29 doubles, and 34 home runs, which rank in the top-10 in Kentucky history.

Apart from her offensive dominance on the diamond, Sagermann was an NFCA Third Team All-Southeast Region selection in 2014 as well as being Second Team All-SEC and All-SEC Tournament in 2014. Sagermann was a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient.

After her career at Kentucky, Sagermann briefly played professionally for the USSSA Florida Pride.

As a prep star at Mill Creek, Sagermann helped the Hawks to a 2008 AAAAA State Championship and finished as State Runner-Up in 2011. She hit over .500 as a junior and was named Gwinnett County's Offensive Player of the Year. As a senior, Sagermann hit .511 with 11 homeruns and even hit for the cycle, and also threw a no-hitter in the circle. She was named Gwinnett County's Offensive Player of the Year again as a senior as well as the Georgia Dugout Club's State Player of the Year.

"We know that our student-athletes will benefit from Nikki's experience as an SEC softball player as well as a professional softball player," added Thomas, "Her outstanding teaching abilities coupled with her enthusiasm for the game will allow our young team to grow and develop into something very special in a short period of time."

Nikki will assist with coaching infield and hitting this season for the Wolves.
