CARROLLTON, Ga. - The bracket is set for the 2017 Gulf South Conference softball tournament, and the West Georgia Wolves will enter the tournament for the first time since the 2014 season as the #8 Seed, taking on top-seed and tournament host Alabama Huntsville in the opening round.
The first round is set for Thursday from Charger Park in Huntsville, Ala., with the Wolves and Lady Chargers facing off at 4:00 p.m. in the third game of the day. Mississippi College earned the third seed in the tournament and will open play at 11:00 a.m. against 6th-seeded Lee. Second-seeded West Florida will play Shorter in the 1:30 p.m. matchup, followed by the Wolves and Chargers. In the final game of the day at 6:30 p.m., fourth-seed Valdosta State will play fifth-seeded North Alabama. (All times EST)
The winner and loser of the contest between West Georgia and Alabama Huntsville will take on the winner and loser of the VSU-UNA contest. Should the Wolves win, they would play in the 1:30 p.m. game on Friday, but a loss in the opening contest will pit UWG against the loser of VSU-UNA at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening.
