CARROLLTON, Ga. – One of the highlights of the UWG softball team’s 4-1 start to the season last weekend was the dominant pitching performance of Katie Foote. On Tuesday, the freshman was honored by the Gulf South Conference, being named the league’s Pitcher and Freshman of the Week.
The Bishop, Ga. native saw action in four of the five games over the weekend, amassing a 3-0 record. On Saturday, Foote went toe-to-toe with Nova Southeastern and won a classic pitcher’s duel 1-0 behind a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out five.
On the weekend, Foote threw a total of 18.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs, good for a 0.76 earned run average. Foote ranks second in the league in innings pitched after one weekend of the 2018 season and is ninth in ERA.
It’s the first Pitcher of the Week for UWG since Danielle Easterly last April, and the first Freshman of the Week honor since Raven Smith last March.
Foote and the Wolves are back on the road this week, traveling to Tampa for a doubleheader on Thursday and then taking on Eckerd in a Friday doubleheader.
