CARROLLTON, Ga. – As the 2018 softball season is just over a month away, the UWG softball program and head coach Al Thomas announced today the signing of eight future Wolves to the 2019 Signing Class.

“It has been a thrill piecing together this outstanding class,” said Thomas. “The softball staff has been ‘boots on the ground’ observing and evaluating the talent across the southeast.”

The Wolves add a total of eight signees, including a pair of junior college transfers and six high school student-athletes. Of those six high school signees, three of them are from Alabama and still have their senior seasons to compete while the three high schoolers from Georgia wrapped up their respective careers this fall.

“We reached out to find players with athleticism and quickness on defense, and speed on the base paths was also a necessity,” added Thomas, the third-year UWG head coach. “We wanted to add power to the lineup and we needed an experienced pitcher and catcher as well as adding an outstanding freshman catcher to the mix.”

The Wolves got the speed and athleticism from incoming freshmen Cambree Stanley (Rockmart, Ga.), Lexi Webb (Phenix City, Ala.), and Sissy Atchley (Millbrook, Ala.).

Thomas also added two catchers, Leslie Brogden (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) who is a junior college product currently enrolled at Shelton State and Bailee Butler (McCalla, Ala.) who has hit 34 career home runs in three seasons and still has a senior season remaining in 2019.

Logann Echols (Jesup, Ga.) is an incoming freshman who should add power and speed to the lineup as well as someone who can play both the infield and outfield. Sydney Seymore (Rome, Ga.), a two-time All-State selection also brings a solid bat into the lineup.

In the circle, Thomas went and signed Lexi McCray (Brookwood, Ala.) who currently pitches for Marion Military Institute, pitching 140 innings as a freshman in 2018.

“We believe we have accomplished our task by filling our team voids with these capable young ladies,” concluded Thomas. “Most importantly, each of our signees are equally as gifted in the class room as on the diamond and have tremendous character and work ethic.”

These nine signees will enroll and be on campus in the fall of 2019 with their first season in the red and blue of West Georgia coming in the spring of 2020. For detailed information on each individual signee, use the next feature at the top and bottom of this article.
