VALDOSTA, Ga. – West Georgia fell in the regular season finale on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-1 to rival Valdosta State in the series finale.

UWG wraps up the regular season with a 28-26 record overall and 14-16 in Gulf South Conference play, and will go into next weekend’s GSC Tournament as the sixth seed when they open play on Thursday in Pensacola, Florida.

West Georgia did not get off to the same start as they did in yesterday’s doubleheader sweep as the Blazers got out in front with a three spot in the first. UWG starter Raya Moncus faced just five batters, loading the bases with a pair of walks and a hit batsmen. At that point, Al Thomas went to Katie Foote, and the Blazers got the first run on another hit batsmen and a 2 RBI single.

The Wolves got a run back in the fourth on a Payton Stallworth double and a Lexi Close single as Close picked up the RBI to cut the deficit to 3-1.

In the sixth, VSU added an insurance run on a solo shot, making it 4-1.

The Wolves had just four hits on the day, coming from Hannah Scarbrough, Madison Chambers, Stallworth and Close.

The GSC Tournament opens on Thursday with UWG taking on the third seeded Mississippi College Choctaws at 11:00 a.m. in game one of the tournament in Pensacola, Florida.
