CARROLLTON, Ga. – The UWG men’s golf team got their 2018 spring campaign off with an opening round of 291 on Monday on the first day of the Hurricane Invitational at Doublegate Country Club in Albany, Georgia. The Wolves sit in fourth place.
Rain washed out the early round, shortening the day to just 18 holes, giving the Wolves two rounds to try to make up the nine stroke deficit. Host Georgia Southwestern leads the tournament with a 281 in the first round, led by a 64 from Vincent Norman.
Junior Dan Benson highlighted the opening round for West Georgia with a one-under par 71 to open the tournament. Benson begins tomorrow in a sixth place tie.
Both Sam Jones and Carson Vaugh fired rounds of 73 in their opening rounds at Doublegate, putting the duo in a 17th place tie.
It was a 74 for James Robillard in his opening round, good for a 26th place tie. The highest score in Todd Selders’ lineup on the day was a three-over round of 75 from Ethan Jones, who sits in a 31st place tie after 18 holes.
Playing as an individual, Valentin Riviere was solid in his opening round, firing an even par 72.
The Wolves come back tomorrow for rounds two and three at Doublegate Country Club.
