MOBILE, Ala. – The UWG men’s golf team saved their best for last on Tuesday, firing a final round 290 and finishing with an 889 total in the Gulf South Conference Championships at the RTJ Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove, good for a third place finish.
The 290 as a team marked the second lowest round by any team in the entire men’s tournament. Team Champion West Florida shot the lowest round with a first round 288.
Rece Moore shot a career-best two-under 70 in the final round, finishing with a four-over total, and tied with Sam Jones who also shot a four-over total with a final round 73. Moore made back-to-back birdies on holes two and three and then rattled off 15 straight pars to finish two-under on the day. He and Jones finished tied for seventh individually.
It was a solid final round for Luca Mota, as the freshman wrapped up his first career GSC Championships with a one-under round of 71, making five birdies on the day. Mota finished tied for 13th individually with a 222 total.
Ethan Jones finished tied for 19th with a final round 76 giving Jones a 228 total. Behind Jones was Blake Kollin shooting a final round 81 to put him in a tie for 42nd.
UWF held off a late Charge from Valdosta State to claim the GSC Championship with the Wolves finishing five strokes behind the champion Argos.
