CARROLLTON, Ga. – On Monday, a pair of UWG men’s golf standouts were honored by the Gulf South Conference as Sam Jones and Lucas Mota were named All-Gulf South Conference and Mota earned GSC Freshman of the Year honors.

Jones, who was selected to the First Team All-GSC squad, now becomes a two-time All-Conference selection, and averaged 70.7 in his senior season. In nine events, Jones had two individual wins and six top-10 finishes, including a tie for seven in last week’s Gulf South Conference Championships.

For Mota, the Spaniard finishes his freshman campaign on a high note, earning Second Team All-GSC Honors as well as becoming UWG’s third GSC Freshman of the Year and first since Carson Vaughn in 2015. Mota averaged 72.7 on the year, winning one tournament and finishing inside the top-five in one other.

Jones and Mota both await the selection of the participants for the NCAA South/Southeast Regional. It would be Jones’ second straight appearance at the Regionals. The 2019 NCAA South/Southeast Regional is set for May 9-11 in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida.
