DAHLONEGA, Ga. – A final round 68 from Samuel Jones gave the junior a sixth place individual finish, as the UWG men’s golf wrapped up the UNG Fall Invitational in a seventh place tie on Tuesday.
Jones began the day in 13th place, but shot a four-under round of 68 in the final round to vault him up to sixth place, his best finish since a fourth place tie at last season’s Big Blue Intercollegiate. Jones finished the UNG Fall Invitational with a 212 total.
As a team, the Wolves used a final round 291 to finish with an 878 total, tying them with Gulf South Conference foe Lee in seventh place.
Junior Daniel Benson played his best round of the season in the final round on Tuesday, firing a two-under par 70 on his way to a 221 total and a 23rd place tie.
A final round 78 for James Robillard put the freshman in a 35th place tie with a 225 total in his first career tournament.
Valentin Riviere finished with a 75 on Tuesday, giving him a 227 total and a 40th place finish. For senior Carson Vaughn, it was a final round 81, putting the Newnan native in a 57th place tie with a 54-hole total of 233.
Newberry came from behind to win the UNG Fall Invitational with a final round 283, taking the team title by five strokes.
West Georgia’s next action is set for October 16-17 at the TVA Credit Union Classic hosted by North Alabama in Florence, Ala.
