CALERA, Ala. – A final round 300 was a disappointing finish for the UWG men’s golf team, but freshman Lucas Mota made a statement as he shot a final round 72 to finish as the individual champion of the Full Moon Invitational held at Timberline Golf Club in Calera, Alabama.

Mota, one day removed from setting a single round school record did just enough to hold off a charging B.J. Scott who shot a final round 71 to finish one shot behind Mota at 137. Mota’s finish notched his first career win in as many starts for the freshman from Barcelona, Spain.

“Very proud of Lucas today,” said head coach Todd Selders, “He was outstanding yesterday and did enough today to earn his first win. What a way to start his career and our season.”

Samuel Jones, who was three-under headed into the round, finished four-over in his final round and placed in a seventh place tie with a 143 total.

It was a 77 for Blake Kollin in the final round, good enough for a 153 total and a 28th place tie. Just behind him was Rece Moore whose final round 76 put him in a 32nd place tie individually. Ethan Jones finished with a 77 in the final round and placed 35th with a 158 total.

Playing as an individual, Dan Benson shot an even-par 71 on Tuesday, finishing with a 146 total, good for a 16th place tie.

“As a team, we didn’t play as well as I thought we should this week,” added Selders, “We will regroup and see what areas of our game we can improve on.”

The Wolves are now setting their sights on the Cougar Invitational set for September 24-25.
