CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG Wolves are set to begin the 2019 Cross-Country season this Saturday, September 7 at the Falcon Classic hosted in Montevallo, Alabama. The Falcon classic is the first of six meets scheduled for this fall and is hosted by GSC member Montevallo.

Head Coach Ryan Bailey is excited about the potential of this particular group of runners, as top returner from 2018 Solomon Komen (Kapcherop, Kenya) prepares for his Junior season and a shot to make it back to the NCAA Regional Championships where he cruised to a 33:59.9 10k finish.

Also returning to help lead the charge are juniors Jonah Negusse (Fayetteville, Ga), Parks Turner (Roopville, Ga) and Sophomore David Walker (Peachtree city, Ga). Turner and Walker also competed in the NCAA Division ll Regional Championship last season, as Turner posted a 37:33.5 10k time while walker posted a 35:20.2 time.

“We have nine guys who are running better than anybody on the team was running last year,” stated Bailey. “That includes returners as well. All four of our returners have gotten better and are running better than last year.”

As Coach Bailey continued in his interview, he could not help but show excitement for his incoming class of freshman runners. “Overall, we have a very deep, talented group of Freshman runners, I’d say that our marquee freshman so far this offseason has been Michael Fabiano. We also have a very pleasant surprise in Andres Sanchez, who was a late recruit but has come in and shown a ton of talent.’’

The Wolves will travel to Chattanooga Friday, September 20 for their second meet of the season.
