CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG Cross Country teams will travel to Chattanooga on Friday to compete in the 2nd annual UTC Twilight Meet. The Wolves are just a few days removed from the Falcon Classic hosted by Montevallo where both squads performed well, and are looking ahead to their second meet of the season on Friday, September 13th.

Head Coach Ryan Bailey led his squad to a strong start to begin the season at the Falcon Classic, which saw the team finish with five runners placing in the top 60. The Men’s team placed 6th overall at the meet.

Top runner Solomon Komen built on an already impressive career which saw him compete in the NCAA Regional championship in 2018. Komen kicked off his junior season with a fast start as he led the way for the Wolves with a 10th place individual finish and a time of 25:14.53 (8k). Komen’s time is not only a personal record (PR) for himself, but the top time for a UWG harrier in the past 15 seasons.

Behind Komen was freshman Micheal Fabiano in 37th place. Fabiano, who Bailey was optimistic about coming into the season, began his UWG career with a time of 26:25:19. The Wolves top five runners were rounded out by; David Walker (52nd), Jonah Morris (53rd), and Andres Sanchez (55th). This particular group yields lots of potential, as all runners mentioned above are underclassmen and finished with times under 28 minutes, which was a PR for all runners listed.

The Wolves look to carry momentum into this week’s UTC Twilight meet as the men’s team will be competing with 9 other teams, three of which are Division I. Not only will they be battling the other schools, but also the heat as temperatures are predicted to be in the upper 90’s during the race.

With a solid first meet under their belts, the men’s team looks to build on their impressive start to the season this Friday, September 13th as they travel to UT-Chattanooga.
