CARROLLTON, Ga. – The West Georgia Men’s cross country team is set to take part in their second meet of the season at the Stan Sims Invitational at the Sam Smith Park in Cartersville, Georgia on Friday, September 8.

The invitational on Friday will be the first 8k of the year for the Wolves. With only two returning runners from last year, this will be the first time some of the freshman will run an 8k competitively. Thomas Adkins and Jacob Giammarco will be the only two runners with experience running an 8k collegiately, and will be relied on in this meet to help the Wolves.

“We’ve spent some time preparing the group to make the jump” said Head Coach Ryan Bailey. “We cautioned the younger guys to key off the returners for at least the first mile or two.”

The Wolves will be looking for another strong performance from Isaac Hernandez. The freshman is coming off a top-20 finish, placing 19th at the last meet with a 16:35.70 in a 5k race at Jacksonville State.

This will be the Wolves second consecutive meet versus Division I competition. The competition will be a chance to see how the team looks during an 8k race and will be the baseline for the rest of the regular season.

West Georgia will face Division I competition such as: Florida Gulf Coast Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, and Mercer. The Wolves will also compete against fellow GSC competitors Shorter and North Alabama. The men’s race will begin at 6:45 p.m.
