CARROLLTON, Ga. - The ball didn't bounce the way of the Wolves on Thursday afternoon in Rome, Ga., as the West Georgia Wolves finished the pre-spring break schedule against the Shorter Hawks, falling 5-4.

As is custom in collegiate tennis, doubles play started the day, and the Wolves took just one of the three doubles matches against Shorter on this afternoon. Brooke Kane and Gabby Chanthaphaeng fell in No. 1 doubles against Shorter's Melinda Chrun and Aleksandra Durzynski with an 8-4 final. In No. 2 doubles flight, Shelby Brown and Meg Cummings lost in a thrilling match against Shorter's Anastasia Jovicic and Martina Radinovic, losing 9-8. The Wolves were strong in No. 3 doubles, with Jordan England and Bailey McCammon winning 8-0.

In No. 2 singles and No. 6 singles, the Wolves and Shorter split a pair of matches where a player was forced to retire due to injury. Kane lost in No. 3 singles by a 6-3, 6-0 score, but Chanthaphaeng took a thrilling 7-6 victory in the first set followed by a 6-1 win to close out the set. Shelby Brown powered through No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory and the match was tied heading into the final set of the day.

Playing in No. 1 singles Thursday was Sara Watson against Shorter's Aleksandra Durzynski, who took the first set 6-4. Watson returned the favor and the two teams went into the final set of the day with a 4-4 tie overall and a 1-1 tie in No. 1 singles. Durzynski controlled the final set, winning 6-0 to take the victory for Shorter.

The Wolves will not play over Spring Break, and will return to action on April 6 in Pensacola, Fla., taking on four Gulf South Conference teams over the course of three days.
