Rome, GA – The UWG volleyball team fell by a 3-0 decision on Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop-King Centre to in-state rival Shorter in Gulf South Conference action.

 

The first set was a back-and-forth battle out of the gate, with four lead changes early in the match. Shorter took the first set lead for good at the 16-15 mark, and went on to win the last six points to claim the opening set victory by a 25-17 count.

 

Shorter came out firing on all cylinders in the second set jumping out to a 7-1 and then a 12-2 advantage. The Wolves battled back to get it as close as five points, but the Hawks took the second by another 25-17 score.

 

The final and deciding set was all Shorter as the Hawks took a 25-13 win in the third to claim a 3-0 sweep over West Georgia.

 

Anjelina Webb led the offensive attack for the Wolves with eight kills and chipped in with five digs. Both Victoria Rushin and Madi Fleming had 10 assists on the day while Jaylen Daffin led the way defensively with 12 digs.

 

West Georgia is back in action on Tuesday, hosting West Alabama for Senior Night in The Coliseum. First serve for that game is set for 6 p.m.
