CARROLLTON, Ga. – The West Georgia volleyball program moves into the final week of the 2018 season, kicking off the week with the final home match of the year as the Wolves take on Auburn-Montgomery on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
With the final home match comes Senior Night, as UWG Athletics honors three seniors on the occasion of their final night on the court at The Coliseum.
The Wolves and Warhawks met once earlier this season, with West Georgia taking the road victory in straight sets. The UWG offense was solid on the night with a team hitting percentage of .205 during the match. Niah Bruce, Angelina Webb, and Madi Fleming led the offense for West Georgia, with Bruce and Webb producing six kills during the match while Fleming accumulated 24 assists. The Wolves’ defense was strong as well, holding AUM to a team hitting percentage of .067.
Currently, Auburn-Montgomery has struggled to a 1-13 record in GSC play but had success against the rest of the schedule with a 10-19 record overall. AUM’s team hitting percentage is .143, led by middle blocker Brianna Garvin and setter Carly Smart. Garvin is averaging 2.56 kills per set, while Smart has contributed with 657 assists. Smart is also solid on defense with 238 digs on the year. Garvin leads the team in blocks with 84 of the team’s 168.
The Wolves return to the court on Tuesday after two losses this past week against West Florida and Valdosta State. Aisha Ambrose has been a solid asset to the Wolves this past week, accumulating 24 kills on offense in the past two matches. Angelina Webb follows closely behind Ambrose with 17 kills in that span. West Georgia’s defense has been solid on the front line, with Niah Bruce and Kaylyn Buchanan each with six blocks. As for the Wolves’ back line, Emilee Harris and Anna Metzler have been solid, with Harris picking up a career-high 21 digs in the Valdosta match and Metzler with 15 against West Florida. UWG has a team hitting percentage of .187 for the year. The Wolves enter the match on Tuesday 5-8 in GSC play and 11-12 overall.
