CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Wolves will close out the 2018 season this weekend with two road matches in Gulf South Conference play. UWG volleyball and head coach Jon Moseley will travel to Clinton, Mississippi for an evening game at 7 p.m. against Mississippi College on Friday then head to Livingston, Alabama to take on the West Alabama Tigers on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

 

THE HISTORY

The Wolves played both teams earlier in the 2018 season, falling at home to West Alabama 3-2 on September 28 and defeating MC on September 29 by a 3-1 score.

Against West Alabama earlier this season, the Wolves built a 2-1 lead before the Tigers came back for a 3-2 victory. McKenna Wharton had 19 kills, which was a career high for her. Followed closely behind her, Anjelina Webb manufactured 16 kills for the offense. Madi Fleming contributed with 41 assists on the match. For the defense, the Wolves had 64 digs, led by senior libero Anna Metzler with 18. 

During the match against Mississippi College, the Wolves had a team hitting percentage of .160, led by junior McKenna Wharton with 19 kills, repeating what she did against West Alabama. Anjelina Webb was also a big leader for West Georgia in this match, having 12 kills on the evening. The Wolves accumulated 78 digs and 14 blocks throughout the four-set match that helped take them to victory. The Choctaws produced a .122 hitting percentage as a team and had 80 digs for the match.

UWA OVERVIEW
UWA is 11-3 in GSC play and 19-8 overall. West Alabama has a team hitting percentage of .227 and is averaging 13.3 kills per set. The offense is led by Madison Cooler with 334 kills and Kassie Till with 1036 assists on the year. On defense, the Tigers are led by outside hitter Jessica Akiona with 321 digs. Middle blocker Jamie Lancellot holds the team on the front line with 60 blocks. 

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE OVERVIEW
Mississippi College is 1-13 in GSC play and 7-23 overall. The team has a hitting percentage of .146, which is led by outside hitter Kendall Platt with 326 kills on the season. Lexie Laurendine, the Choctaws’ setter, has 517 assists for the year. For the defense, Senior Jill Brown leads the team in digs with 493. The team has a total of 161.5 blocks, led by Mississippi College’s middle blocker Gwenyth Prenter.

UWG OVERVIEW
West Georgia is coming off a tough loss against Auburn-Montgomery on Senior Day this past Tuesday. The Wolves had a team hitting percentage of .100, led by McKenna Wharton and Anjelina Webb with 10 kills each. Madi Fleming had 29 assists on the match. Currently, UWG has a cumulative team hitting percentage of .183. Wharton is averaging 3.10 kills per set, and Madi Fleming has 722 assists for the season. The Wolves defense was led by Anna Metzler on Tuesday’s match against AUM with 26 digs. For the front line, Niah Bruce and Kaylyn Buchanan hold the team on blocks with 76 and 56 respectively. Overall, the Wolves have 156 blocks on the season. Senior Libero Anna Metzler has 268 digs on the year, followed by Emilee Harris with 174.
