Carrollton, GA - After an impressive opening weekend sweep of the Augusta Jaguars, Head Coach Skip Fite and the West Georgia Wolves baseball squad hit the road to take on the Columbus State Cougars in midweek action.

Weekend Wrap-Up
West Georgia used a combination of good pitching and clutch hitting to start the 2017 campaign with a 3-0 record. Game one for the Wolves was dominated by Junior Greyson McLeod who threw six innings, giving up no earned runs while striking out six. Ben Utley and Price Peters each had two RBI for the Wolves in game one.

West Georgia won game two behind eleven hits and eight runs from their offense. Price Peters hit the Wolves first homerun of the season, and Ben Utley finished the game with three hits and two RBI. Artemis Kadkhodaian also had three hits in the contest. Closer Mitchell Mannino picked up his first save of the year.

Game three came down to the wire as the Wolves scored two runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to pick up the 7-6 win. UWG was down 5-0 early, but responded with a five-run sixth inning to tie the game. Senior Artemis Kadkhodaian hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the tenth to tie the game at six. The hero of the day was freshman outfielder Brady Barnes who drove in Price Peters for the walk-off win.

Junior Ben Utley has been on fire so far in 2017, leading UWG with a .467 BA. Utley has seven hits so far, including three doubles and five RBI. He's also scored three runs.

Senior reliever Mitchell Mannino has also been in midseason form, picking up a save and a win over the weekend. Mannino has given up no earned runs in three innings pitched. He has four strikeouts and has surrendered only one walk in 2017.

Columbus State at a Glance
The Cougars are 2-1 on the year after beating the Erskine Flying Fleet two out of three games to begin the 2017 season.

Columbus State is hitting .311 as a team, with five players currently hitting .400 or better. Junior Turner Vincent has hit .429 on the year with a team-leading four RBI. Bryce Delevie leads the Cougars with five hits. He has a homerun and two RBI also.

The Cougars pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.00 after three games. They have combined for 19 strikeouts while allowing only seven base on balls. Senior Caleb Kutsche has six strikeouts in eight scoreless innings pitched.
