Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves baseball team looks to pick up another non-conference win in 2017 as they face the Columbus State Cougars for a midweek game on Tuesday at Cole Field.

UWG is coming off of a weekend in which dropped two out of three games to the Lee Flames in Gulf South Conference baseball. The Wolves now sit at 7-10 overall with a 2-7 record in the GSC. Columbus State most recently won two out of three games against Peach Belt Conference opponent UNC Pembroke, pushing their overall record to 9-7 with a conference record of 5-1.

The Wolves and Cougars met once already this season as UWG traveled to Columbus to take on CSU in both teams first midweek game. West Georgia defeated CSU by a score of 13-6. UWG jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but the Cougars rallied back to tie the game 4-4. That was the score after nine innings, but the Wolves put up nine runs in the top of the 12th inning, while CSU added two runs in the 12th to give UWG the 13-6 win.

West Georgia is led offensively by junior Ben Utley who leads the team with a .420 BA. He als has six doubles, a homerun, and 14 RBl. Price Peters has a .308 batting average, leading UWG with three homeruns. Ryan Sapp leads UWG on the mound with a 2.10 ERA. He has an outstanding 22 strikeouts with only two walks allowed.

Junior infielder Mason McClellan has led CSU offensively so far in 2017 with a .406 batting average. He has eight homeruns and 21 RBI as well on the year. Tyler Fichter is hitting .311 with two triples and 13 runs scored. Luke Porter leads the pitching staff with a 0.94 ERA. He has only given up three earned runs in 28.2 innings pitched.
