Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia baseball team hits the road this weekend as they will travel to Cleveland, MS to take on the Delta State Statesmen in a three game Gulf South Conference series.

UWG and DSU met six times last season, with the Statesmen winning four out of the six matchups. The Wolves and Statesmen met twice in the GSC tournament and once in the NCAA South Regional.

UWG enters this weekend with an 8-10 record overall and a 2-7 record in conference. They most recently won a midweek non-conference game against Albany State on Wednesday.

West Georgia as a team is hitting .283 as a team so far in 2017. They have scored 107 runs on the season with 94 being driven in on an RBI. UWG has a combined 26 doubles, four triples, and seven homeruns. They have also stolen 20 bases.

Junior Ben Utley leads the Wolves with a .403 batting average. He has a team high 26 hits and six doubles. He also has driven in 14 RBI and scored 14 runs. Price Peters is hitting .308 for the Wolves. He has 12 RBI and leads the team with three homeruns.

Ryan Sapp leads West Georgia on the mound. The senior right-hander is fifth in the conference in ERA at 2.10. He has given up only six earned runs 25.2 innings pitched. He also has 22 strikeouts on the year with only two walks allowed.

Delta State enters the weekend with a 13-5 record and a 6-3 record in conference. They split a doubleheader versus Arkansas Tech on Wednesday.

As a team DSU is hitting .288 with 115 runs scored in 18 games. They have 22 doubles and 18 homeruns combined. Zack Shannon leads their offense with a .403 average. He leads the Statesmen with 20 RBI. He also has four doubles and three homeruns.

Zach Osbon has been very good for DSU out of the bullpen. He is 4-0 with a 0.55 ERA. He has given up only one run in 16.1 innings pitched. He also has 17 strikeouts with only six batters walked.
