CARROLLTON, Ga. - After a rough start to the season in North Carolina, UWG baseball coach Skip Fite needed someone to step up to lead West Georgia, and senior Logan Taylor was that man. His leadership, which culminated in a walk-off home run against Bellarmine Saturday, helped the Wolves take 2-of-3 this past weekend from the 10th-ranked Knights and earned Taylor the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week award.
Taylor was 8-for-18 last week, hitting .444 over four games. he had two doubles and a home run, driving in a team-leading six runs and also scored three runs. In addition, he was perfect at first base, with 32 putouts and no errors on the week. He started the week in a strong way, going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI against Georgia College, then had two hits and two RBI in each of the UWG victories over Bellarmine on the weekend.
For the season, the senior is leading the Wolves with a .360 batting average, but the bulk of his offensive output came during this past week. He has nine total hits on the year and four runs scored with six total RBI.
The Wolves continue the 2019 season with four games this week, beginning tomorrow at Cole Field in a return game against Georgia College at 3 p.m. This weekend opens Gulf South Conference play for UWG baseball, with the Shorter Hawks coming to Carrollton beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
