CARROLLTON, Ga. – Head coach Michael Cooney has announced UWG's second signee of the 2017 recruiting season. The Wolves have signed Deng Nhial, a 6-4, 180-pound wing player from Arlington, Va.
Nhial was a standout as a 2016 senior at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Va. Last season he attended and played at Cheshire Academy, a Virginia prep school. Nhial will be a freshman when he enrolls at UWG this August.
"Deng is a really nice small forward who could develop into a terror in the GSC," says Cooney. UWG's coach adds, "He has an array of shots; floaters; pull-ups, and his three-point shooting is improving."

"Deng is an unselfish player who fits into our culture and our community."

Nhial's high school resume is impressive. He was the Wakefield team captain as he claimed 2016 Conference 13 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was All-Region 5-A First Team, and a second team all-state selection. Also, Nhial was an honorable mention All-Metro selection for the Washington, D.C. area.
Nhial is the second signee of what will be a very busy 2017 recruiting year for UWG. The Wolves have previously this spring announced the signing of Drew Cobb, a 6-3 guard from Sheldon High in Sacramento.
Cooney and staff are still busy on the recruiting trail.
