CARROLLTON, Ga. – The 2017-18 men’s basketball season begins tomorrow, and today, presents another “Meet the Wolves” segment, as today we take a look at freshman swingman Greg James.

James, a 6-4 product from Shiloh High School in talent-rich Gwinnett County, was a late signee for head coach Michael Cooney and has shown significant promise through the first two exhibition games of the year.

“We are excited to bring in a player with the skills that Greg brings to the table,” said Cooney. “He is an extremely versatile offensive player and a tenacious defender as well.”

The Snellville native originally committed to Division I Virginia Military Institute after a standout career at Shiloh.  Last season, he was named Preseason All-County by the Gwinnett Daily Post in 2016-17 after helping lead the Generals to the Elite Eight of the 2015-16 Georgia High School Basketball tournament as a junior.

In his senior season, he was named Second Team All-County by the Gwinnett Tipoff Club as well as First Team All-Region 8-AAAAAAA, earning an invitation to play in the 2017 Gwinnett County All-Stars game.

James led the Wolves in scoring and rebounding in his first game in a West Georgia uniform, putting up 15 points and pulling down seven boards en route to a 116-81 victory for UWG over Carver in exhibition. He nearly had double-figures again at Kennesaw State, hitting for nine points and seven rebounds against the Division I opponent.

West Georgia opens the 2017-18 regular season on Saturday evening, taking on the Miles Golden Bears at 7 p.m. in the GSC/SIAC Challenge. The Wolves will then take on Tuskegee on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., with all games played at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
