Carrollton, GA – Marquill Smith erupted in the UWG Wolves’ win last Thursday over Auburn-Montgomery. He had a 39-point, 17-rebound night to propel the Wolves into this week’s Gulf South Conference Tournament.
Monday, Smith was named GSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The honor was the third of the season for Smith, who also claimed the designation for his performance in the Wolves’ sweep of their Delta State-Mississippi College weekend earlier in February.
Smith, a junior from Miami Gardens, Fla., tops the GSC in scoring at 23.3 points per game. He is also the league’s fourth leading rebounder, pulling 8.6 caroms per contest.
UWG will need a big effort from Smith and his teammates in their Super Tuesday GSC Tournament contest at Valdosta State. The Wolves and Blazers renew their rivalry for the 131st time in a contest set to tip at 8 p.m. from The Complex on the VSU campus.
