Carrollton, GA – Postseason honors continued Friday for a West Georgia Wolves basketball standout. Marquill Smith was named a first team member of the Division II Conference Commissioners Association Men’s Basketball All-South Region Team.

For Smith, a senior from Miami Gardens, Fla., Friday’s honor follows up his top honors earlier this month from the Gulf South Conference. He was named GSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, and was voted a first team member of the All-Gulf South Conference Team.

Smith posted overwhelming numbers during his senior season for the Wolves. He led the league in both scoring at 27.3 points per game, and rebounding with 8.7 per contest. He also topped the league in three-point field goals made with 3.6 per contest.

The Gulf South Conference dominated first team selections for the All-South Region First Team. Joining Smith on the squad are guard Beau Justice of Valdosta State, and center Adam Dieball of Christian Brothers. Guards LaJuan Harvey of West Alabama and Joe Laravie of Christian Brothers were chosen as second team members.

With his first team All-South Region status, Smith now advances to the national ballot for the D2CCA All-America Team. That squad will be chosen in a vote of sports information directors from around the country. Selections for the D2CCA All-American Team will be announced March 26.
