Carrollton, GA – Year two of the Dave Moore Era is set to begin for the West Georgia Wolves’ basketball program. Tuesday, October 15, is opening day of official, preseason practice for 2019-20 basketball season.
Thursday, the Gulf South Conference office in Birmingham released results of the annual preseason poll of league head coaches. UWG landed in the sixth spot, close to where the Wolves finished the previous season as they landed as the sixth seed for the annual GSC Tournament.
Moore welcomes back a solid group of experienced players for the upcoming season. That includes guards Michael Zabatakis and Greg James, the team’s top two returning scorers. The Wolves also return experience with wing Deng Nhial, who started 13 games a year ago, and forward Karlos Odum, who was injured in last year’s third game after being a starter the previous season.
Moore is also excited about his incoming recruiting class. The group includes a mix of transfers, juco signees, and several highly regarded freshmen.
West Georgia begins its new season at home on November 8th and 9th as the Wolves host the annual GSC-SSC Challenge, pitting a pair of Gulf South Conference teams against two from the Sunshine State Conference. Friday’s opponent in the challenge opener is Embry-Riddle in a 7:30 p.m. contest. Saturday, the Wolves face Palm Beach Atlantic at 6:00 p.m.
