CARROLLTON, Ga. - An unusual early December snowstorm for the Carrollton area turned into blizzard-like conditions for the southern town, as the University of West Georgia campus and surrounding area received nearly 10 inches of snow over the course of Friday and Saturday. With the residual snow and difficult travel conditions, the university was forced to move Winter Commencement Ceremonies to Sunday, and UWG Athletics has cancelled Sunday's game against Carver.

The week has been a trying one for scheduling and the UWG basketball program, as the week began with the cancellation of Monday's originally scheduled game with the Virgin Islands, followed by the addition of Carver to the schedule for Sunday. The snow that swept through western Georgia forced women's basketball program to postpone Saturday afternoon's contest at Clark Atlanta until Wednesday. Graduation for the university was to take place at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, but the snow forced the two ceremonies to combine, and as the snow continued to accumulate, the call was made to move the commencemet ceremony to Sunday.

Head coach Michael Cooney and his squad will take their 3-4 record into Saturday's matchup with Mississippi College, as the Wolves look for their first Gulf South Conference victory of the year. The Wolves will be "Home for the Holidays", taking on MC on Saturday, followed by a battle with Delta State on Sunday. Both dates will be doubleheaders, with Saturday versus Mississippi College beginning at 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men. On Monday against DSU, UWG Athletics has made a change in the schedule, so bring the kids on out for a fantastic evening, with the women's game beginning at 4 p.m. and the men's game at 6 p.m.
