BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Wolves fought to the final buzzer on Saturday but just came up short as they fell 70-62 to the West Florida Argonauts in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference women's basketball tournament.

It was a slow start for West Georgia as the Wolves fell behind 27-12 after a quarter of play. The Wolves fought back in the second quarter, outscoring West Florida 16-12 in the second period to cut the deficit to 39-28 heading into the half.
 
Jessica Brown was impressive for the Wolves in the first half, going 5-8 from the field and pacing the Wolves with 11 first half points. UWG shot 35% from the field in the first half, but struggled from the free throw line shooting 4-10.
 
UWG held West Florida to a 43% first half, but the Argonauts hit 6-9 three pointers to extend their lead. West Florida was especially impressive in the first on the boards, outrebounding the Wolves 24-16 in the first twenty minutes of play.
 
The third quarter was pretty even between the two teams with UWF outscoring UWG 16-14 in the period, giving the Argonauts a 55-42 lead headed to the fourth quarter.
 
West Georgia began to chip away at the UWF lead in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 67-62 with just under two minutes to play. Unfortunately that was as close as UWG would get as UWF would score the last three points of the game giving the Argonauts the 70-62 win over the Wolves.
 
Jessica Brown led West Georgia, finishing the game with 26 points and seven rebounds. De'Ashia Jones added 13 points for the Wolves, grabbing four rebounds in the process.
 
The Wolves finished the game 23-60 from the field, but finished the game at only 52% from the charity stripe. The Argonauts shot 57% from three-point range, and outrebounded UWG 49-37.
