CARROLLTON, Ga. – After winning, Thursday night’s Gulf South Conference opener at Shorter, the West Georgia Wolves women’s basketball team now heads to Cleveland, Tenn. to take on the Lee Flames on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

The Wolves are currently 4-2 after Thursday’s win started UWG at 1-0 in GSC play, while the Flames defeated Auburn-Montgomery by a wide, 63-25 margin at home on Thursday night to improve to 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play.

Junior Jessica Brown led the offensive attack on Thursday night, leading all scorers with 15 points, joining Aysha Harris and D’Asia Cain in double figures.

The most impressive stat for the Wolves on Thursday night was their second half defense, and specifically their defense in the fourth quarter. West Georgia held Shorter to five fourth quarter points on Thursday night, and went on to score 19 in that final quarter compared to Shorter’s 17 in the entire second half.

West Georgia will now face a Lee team that averages 73.3 points per game and allows just 53 per contest. The Flames shoot the ball well from all over the court, hitting from the field at a 43.7 percent clip and have a 35.9 three-point percentage.

Erin Walsh, who eclipsed the 1,500 career points milestone in Thursday’s game, is Lee’s leading scorer, averaging 13.6 points per contest.

The Wolves’ leading scorer is Kayla Carter who, despite being held to just two points against Shorter, is averaging 13.5 points per contest. Aysha Harris also averages double-figures for the Wolves, chipping in with 10.5 per game.

It’s only the ninth meeting all-time between West Georgia and Lee, as the Flames joined the league just five seasons ago. Lee leads the series 5-3, and the two teams split last season’s series, with each team winning their respective home games. Both head coaches, Scott Groninger and Marty Rowe, have coached their respective teams in every meeting in the series.
