CARROLLTON, Ga. – The second half of a big home weekend is set for Saturday afternoon as the UWG women’s basketball team host West Florida in a 2 p.m. contest at The Coliseum.
West Georgia is coming off of a 45-41 win over Valdosta State on Thursday night and now face a red-hot West Florida team that has won eight straight games and sits at 18-4 overall with a 12-3 record in GSC play.
Thursday’s win for West Georgia moved the Wolves to 12-8 overall and 7-7 in the Gulf South Conference and completed a season sweep over Valdosta State for the first time since 2013-14.
The Wolves’ leading-scorer for the season and on Thursday was Aysha Harris, who led all scorers with 12 points and also had four steals. West Georgia also got double-digit scoring from Edley Drawhorn and Terrianna Cave. For Cave, the senior came off the bench and hit a pair of three-pointers, finishing with 11 points and five rebounds.
Saturday’s opponent, West Florida, features the top two scorers in the league as Halee Nieman and Toni Brewer each average 17.6 points per game. Brewer is also the only player in the GSC averaging a double-double with an 11.1 points per game average.
The Wolves have created a house of horrors for UWF in The Coliseum as of late, winning four straight games over West Florida in Carrollton.
