CARROLLTON, Ga. - The athletic year kicked off last week but this week it really gets rolling with four sports beginning their year and a total of five sports in action, including three at home.


Football

Game week is upon us at the University of West Georgia. The Wolves kickoff the season with the 2018 home opener against Catawba at 2:00 p.m. Single game tickets are available online for $15 until Friday noon. On gameday, University Stadium ticket booths will open at 12:00 p.m., with a cost of $20 at the booth. The Wolf Walk, where fans can welcome players into University Stadium, begins at 12:30 p.m. at Wolf Plaza. Gates open at 12:30 p.m., with the Junior Wolves Fun Den open also at that time.

Cross Country

Head coach Ryan Bailey and UWG Cross Country opens the 2018 campaign this Friday with the Season Opener race returning to Carrollton. The women will begin at 5:45 p.m., and the men will follow shortly after. The race will begin near the Observatory Field on campus. This Friday’s race will be the only one held in Carrollton for the 2018 season, so come out and support your Wolves as they compete!

Soccer

Following up on a trip to the Gulf South Confrence tournament last season, West Georgia soccer opens the year this weekend, taking on Rollins College on the road in Winter Park, Florida on Friday evening. The season kicks off at 7:00 p.m. in Winter Park, Florida. On Sunday, the Wolves will remain in Winter Park, taking on Barry University starting at 11:00 a.m.

Volleyball

Volleyball returns to the court on Friday and Saturday after a great opening weekend in Huntsville. The Wolves went 2-1 in the UAH tournament, beating LeMoyne-Owen and Alabama Huntsville. West Georgia will take on North Greenville University and Lander University on Friday in the first day of the Erskine Tournament in Due West, SC. On Saturday, the Wolves will compete against Francis Marion and Erskine College before heading home.
