CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Wolves have an action packed weekend at home. After being on the road for a month, Soccer will make their home debut on Friday afternoon. Football is back at University Stadium on Saturday to host Florida Tech to get into conference play.
After a great weekend in Albany, the Wolves will be taking on Florida Tech at 2 p.m. on Saturday at University Field to begin conference play. This Saturday will also include the induction of five former athletes into the UWG Athletic Hall of Fame during halftime.
The Wolves continued their success this season on Saturday against Albany State. The team pushed past Albany with a strong second half to gain a victory of a 45-21 win. The Wolves go into this week against Florida Tech 3-0 on the season.
Kickoff this weekend will be at 2 p.m. Junior Wolves begins at 12 p.m. this Saturday with sign up ending at 1:30. Inflatables, cookies, and t-shirts are included in the $10 sign up fee, which can be paid online or at the Junior Wolves table on gameday.
The Wolf Walk will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Wolf Plaza for fans to welcome the team. Gates open after the Wolf Walk, to bring the spirit into University Stadium. Wear your West Georgia Blue with the Wolves to Blue-Out the the Panthers.
Men’s and Women’s Golf preformed this past weekend at the Full Moon Invitational, where each team brought home an individual champion title.
For the women, Franziska Bremm took home the champion title with a six-under total. Overall, the Wolves finished second behind North Georgia.
The Men’s golf team finished fourth overall. Lucas Mota was the individual champion of the tournament, while also setting records for West Georgia. For the first round, Mota shot a 64 to beat the school record by one.
Both teams will be competing this upcoming week in matches. The men will be playing at the Cougar Invitational in Columbus, Georgia on September 24th and 25th. The Women will be participating in the Battle at Old South in Hilton Head, South Carolina on September 22nd and 23rd.
Wolves Soccer will make their home debut with two games this weekend. The team has been on the road for the first three weeks of their season and are excited to be at home.
This past week, Soccer took on Montevallo and Auburn University-Montgomery, where their records stands at 2-2-2 for the year. The Wolves are 2-0 is GSC play after this week, beating Montevallo 2-1 in overtime and AUM 4-1.
The Wolves will be playing in Carrollton on Friday and Sunday. Friday night, they host West Florida in their home opener at 7 p.m. at University Field. Sunday the Wolves will face Spring Hill at 1 p.m.
Volleyball had three games this past week, going 1-2, which set them to a 6-4 overall record for the 2018 season so far.
Volleyball faced a tough loss on their home opener against Lee on Tuesday. They traveled to Shorter on Friday, where the Wolves fell 3-0. After two tough losses on the week, the Wolves pushed past Valdosta State, winning the game 3-1. The Wolves came up short in the first set, but made a roaring come back during the next three, to take victory over the Blazers.
This upcoming week, Volleyball will be facing West Florida in Pensacola at 7 p.m. on Friday. They will turn around to travel to AUM the following day, for a 3 p.m. start in Montgomery.
Men and Women’s Cross Country ran this past weekend in Montevallo. This meet was the first chance of competition against other GSC teams and also DI teams.
Solomon Komen continues to impress, finishing 21st out of 227 runners this past weekend. Men’s Cross Country finished 14th. Women placed an overall 20th. Alaina Burnside was the top finisher for the Wolves this past weekend, running a 22:20.50 in the first 6K of the season.
The Wolves won’t return to compete for another week. Both the men and women will run on September 29th at the UNG Invitational in Gainesville, Georgia.
