Auburn, Alabama - The West Georgia Men's cross country team started two hours later than planned, but the delay did not seem to have an effect, as the Wolves' claimed third in the nine team field, and ahead of both West Florida and West Alabama.
West Georgia was running without
Nao Asano, who had to stay in Carrollton for class, and had they had their senior leader, the Wolves might have had a viable shot at winning the Tiger Invitational. However, the freshmen in the pack continued to impress as
Josh Albey and
Dan Moffit finished 9th and 10th respectively, followed by
Roman Drankin in 16th and
Jonathan Fischer in 19th.
Brian Liburd finished 39th, and sealed the third place finish ahead of UWF when the sophomore passed two Argonaut runners before the final turn into the finish and just about caught a third down the final sprint.
aaron Gall placed 55th and
Chris Ritchie finished in 61st.
Columbus State won the team championship by placing all five scorers in the top 15, and three in the top 10. Alabama State was second just seven points behind CSU. ASU did have the top two runners in the 8K race as Robert Gunn finished with a time of 24:31, ahead of teammate Jepthah Kenei's time of 24:42.
The Men will now focus on next weekends meet in Marietta at the Southern Collegiate.
