Auburn, Alabama - West Georgia continued to shine on Saturday morning at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn University. The Wolves placed third in the ten team field, finishing ahead of Division I schools, Georgia Southern and Troy University.
Columbus State took the team title with ease, as the Lady Cougars placed three runners in the top six and had a total time of 1:34:55. CSU was followed by West Florida with a total time of 1:37:55 and West Georgia with a time of 1:38:15. Individually, Whitney Bishoff of Anderson (S.C) claimed the individual championship with a time of 18:08 in the 5K meet.
For the Wolves,
Chelsa Little and
Chelsea Maxwell led the Wolves' pack finishing eighth and ninth, respectively, and separated by just 13-hundredeths of a second. The two freshmen ran side-by-side for the entire race, and topped the final hill in perfect unison, but Little had a little more in reserve to squeak by her teammate.
Lindsay Ebert and
Deanna Houghton also cracked the top 25 with times of 19:51 for Ebert and 19:57 for Houghton.
Marissa Matthews finished 33rd at 20:22,
Nicole Melilli ran the 3.1 miles in 20:41, and
Megan Jacobs finished in 20:53.
UWG will now prepare for the Southern Collegiate in Marietta next weekend.
