Athens, Tennessee - West Georgia wrapped up the non-conference part of the schedule on Monday evening, with a 1-0 victory against the Tennessee-Wesleyan Bulldogs.
The Wolves midfield controlled the tempo of the match for nearly the entire 90 minutes of play with the veteran play of seniors
Samantha Jones and
Jessica Taylor and the incredible touch of freshman
Angie Jolly. The midfield continuously fed the ball to
Erika Harvey,
Melanie Kilburn, and
Cydney Raymond with the game winner coming with 26 minutes remaining in the first half.
Elyse Boileau crossed the ball into the six-yard box to a fully extended Kilburn, who placed the assist inside the left post.
It was Boileau's first collegiate assist and Kilburn's third goal of the season.
West Georgia outshout TWC 18-3 in the match and
Patricia Logsdon collected her first win and shutout of the season, as the junior filled in quite nicely for
Jenny Ross, who is recovering from an injury.
The Bulldogs have been led by a one woman wrecking crew in sophomore, Helen Collins, who had 11 of the teams 18 goals on the season. However talented the Austrailian native had been in previous games, [Jessica] Taylor shut the six-footer down, as Collins was never able to establish herself throughout the match.
West Georgia is now 5-3-1 on the year, and now prepares for a pair of Gulf South Conference matches at home this weekend. Delta State comes in on Friday at 4:00 pm and Alabama-Huntsville comes in on Sunday at 3:30 pm.
