Carrollton, GA - On the rain-soaked field at the UWG Athletic Complex Saturday, the 2009 chapter in the West Georgia (4-11-1) soccer season came to a close as Christian Brothers (9-5-1, 4-3) ended the Wolves' hopes of a return trip to the Gulf South Conference tournament with a 2-0 victory.
West Georgia outshot the Lady Bucs 18-10 on the afternoon, but could not get one past CBU keeper
Christina Barone. The Wolves' best opportunity came late in the game on a penalty kick, but Barone was equal to the task in that one as well, stopping the
Kira Cooper shot.
The scoring for Christian Brothers all came in the first half, as
Marie Kvarnlof connected on a pass from
Sarah Catherine Ryan in the 35th minute for the first goal. It was Ryan again on the assist just six minutes later, this time on a shot by
Lauren Froelich.
That was all that CBU needed, as the Wolves took nine second-half shots, but none would find the back of the net.
The season that began in the rain against Clayton State ended in the rain against CBU, as the Wolves close out the 2009 campaign with a record of 4-11-1 and 2-4-1 in the Gulf South Conference.
