Carrollton, GA - The early signing period for collegiate volleyball signees ended yesterday and UWG head coach Gary Lee announced the signing of three high school standouts who will join the Wolves’ roster in 2010.
“Each of these young women bring something new to the fold,” said Lee. “We expect them to be the type of players who can make an immediate impact on the court for us.”
The 2010 recruiting class through the early signing period features players from both coasts. Reagin Boggs of Loganville and Mandy Black of Dallas are Georgia standouts and Emily Reul comes to Carrollton by way of San Bernardino, CA.
Lee and his new recruits will look to return West Georgia to prominence in the rugged Gulf South Conference East Division in 2010. The Wolves’ last trip to the conference tournament was in 2007, winning the GSC and advancing to the South Regional.
“We are truly looking to build the program here from the ground up,” Lee said. “If we can continue to sign the caliber of players that we have this fall, things will definitely move in a positive direction for the program.”
Early Signees
Emily Reul • OH • 5-10 • San Bernardino, CA • Cajon High School
A highly sought-after recruit, Lee landed a strong leader in Emily Reul. In her final year, she averaged 3.6 kills per game while hitting at a .487 clip. Reul also contributed 65 service aces, 81 digs and had 231 assists. Joining the Wolves for the 2010 season will be Reagin Boggs, a solid athlete and setter from Loganville Christian Academy in Loganville, GA. Boggs was the team leader in 2009 in assists, kills, digs and aces, earning Team MVP honors in 2008 and 2009. She was named All-Region in her final three years and was an All-State performer as a junior in 2008.
Mandy Black • MH • 5-10 • Dallas, GA • East Paulding High School
One of the deepest places on the court in 2010 for the Wolves will be in the middle, especially with the addition of Mandy Black. As a senior, she averaged 3.1 kills per game, hitting at a .345 clip. She had 49 blocks, 62 aces and 103 digs as well to lead her squad to a 21-14 record. She was named 2008 Paulding County Player of the year and All-Region in 2009.
